Director James Gunn is hard at work assembling Marvel’s cosmic superhero team, Guardians of the Galaxy, and he’s already cast two roles.
Chris Pratt, the goofball from Parks and Recreation that shone in this year’s Zero Dark Thirty is on board to play Star-Lord, half-human half-alien leader of the team. Star-Lord has a psychic link to his ship, lots of cool toys and an encyclopedic knowledge of all things astral, but other than that he’s just your average, run-of-the-mill halfling.
Dave Bautista, most well-known for his career in WWE, will play Drax the Destroyer. He’s a regular human with a loving family that gets murdered by Thanos, the scary dude in the credits scene of The Avengers. After he’s murdered, his soul gets captured and put in a super-body with neat powers. He also becomes single-minded in his goal of murdering Thanos back.
The more complicated roles are still waiting for casting decisions. The two characters Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista will be playing are much easier to deal with than Gamora (the last of an alien species), Rocket Raccon (a genetically-enhanced space sheriff raccoon) or Groot (an Ent in all but name). Those are going to be a little tricky, me thinks.
