As Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) pushes its way forward, production on the sequel to Avenger’s standard-bearer, Captain America, is ramping up.
The biggest news so far is the casting of Anthony Mackie as Falcon, a down-and-out drug dealer from Harlem that gains the ability to fly, turning him into a superhero.
Also of interest is the news that Black Widow will be making an appearance, with likely small roles featuring Nick Fury, Mariah Hill and Hawkeye. This is because the movie will start directly after the events in The Avengers, and feature a lot of footage shot during the filming of The Avengers.
It will not be a sequel to The Avengers, as much as it may seem that way. It will be a sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger. For proof, one need look no further than the announcement that Bucky Barnes (who becomes the sequel’s titular character) will once again be played by Sebastian Stan.
The last bit of shareable news involving the newest Cap movie is that Cleveland has been selected as the primary shooting location. A large chunk of The Avengers was shot in the city on the lake, and Marvel continuing to develop their relationship with the Midwest is good news for all different parts of the economy.
Stay tuned, there should be plenty more news as production steps up.
